I headed out to the Schott last night to check out the first day of the Ohio Hockey Classic.
In the first game, Miami was expected to roll over Clarkson, who have been uncharacteristically bad this season. But the Redhawks came out flat and got behind very early. Despite outshooting Clarkson most of the rest of the game, they just could not take control of the game. Paul Karpowich played very well in net for Clarkson, frustrating Miami time after time. And the rest of the Golden Knights just gutted it out and took it to the Redhawks, coming out with the 4-2 upset. And even though Clarkson is my sworn enemy, I have to give them props for the performance. ECACHL represent! All in all, it was a very entertaining game.
The second game of the night, OSU-Army, was far less fun to watch. It was a mismatch from the start, with OSU rolling easily to a 6-1 win. Although I was cheering for Ohio State, it just became fairly boring in short order. And having read this article about the Army hockey team a couple years ago, it doesn’t feel right to revel in those guys getting spanked by the Buckeyes.
Tonight Miami and Army go at 5PM in the consolation game; OSU and Clarkson play at 8PM for the championship. Tickets are $12 and parking (as always) is free.
