Z gets the bum’s rush

From the Dispatch:

A message was sent barely 10 minutes into practice yesterday when Blue Jackets coach Ken Hitchcock kicked right winger Nikolai Zherdev off the ice. After practice, Hitchcock wouldn’t address the issue other than to confirm it. Zherdev was nowhere to be seen.

The consensus was this: Zherdev, a turnover machine in Sunday’s 5-4 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks in Nationwide Arena, opened practice the same way he played 16 hours earlier, and Hitchcock didn’t care to keep watching.

So Zherdev, who speaks very little English, got the universal sign for heave-ho — an index finger pointed sternly in his direction, then toward the dressing room.

I really wish Z could get his act together, because I do think he has a lot of offensive talent, and players like that aren’t easy to come by. Lord knows the Jackets could use some offensive talent right about now — Philly’s 6 goal explosion last night means the CBJ are now officially in the basement as far as Goals For this season. But right now it’s looking like Zherdev is running out of chances as a Blue Jacket. Stay tuned…

  1. I’ve been slow on the uptake in finding your new place but it looks great. The new blogger format has worked well for wordpress.

  2. Yeah, I’m still getting used to WordPress (like the fact that I have to log in to comment on my own blog) but so far, so good.
