Good news for Pittsburgh hockey fans, as it now appears the Penguins will be getting a new arena, which means they won’t be relocating any time soon.
This leaves Kansas City without a tenant for the Sprint Center, and reports are they’re now going to focus on luring Nashville if the Preds ownership decides to exercise the exit clause in their lease.
Personally, I’d rather not see any team move anywhere. I’d rather see the league get on solid footing in all its current markets and begin growing the overall audience again (which I really see as more of a cyclical thing…I’ll do a longer post on this some weekend) rather than teams moving and new markets going through growing pains. Obviously, it’s a business and some teams may not ultimately last in their current markets. If it happens, it happens. But for now, I’m happy to see the Pens staying put in Pitt and I hope to see the Preds stay put in Nashville.
