NHL Draft: Prospect Skills Clinic

The hockey world has already started to arrive in Columbus for the draft. Last night, some of the top prospects signed autographs at the Crew game (Crew won, 2-1, by the way!). Today, some of the prospects and some Jackets players participated in a skills clinic with kids from local minor hockey associations at the Dispatch Ice Haus.

I headed down there on my lunch break. Kids looked to be having fun. Rick Nash, Pascal Leclaire, Dan Fritsche, and Manny Malhotra were there from the CBJ. Prospects Karl Alzner, Keaton Ellerby, Sam Gagner, Patrick Kane, Kyle Turris, and James Van Riemsdyk took part.

Karl Alzner. This is my choice for the CBJ’s first round pick, if he’s still available, so hopefully this was his first of many times skating in Columbus.

Keaton Ellerby and Pascal Leclaire. If Alzner is gone by #7, I wouldn’t mind seeing Ellerby picked by the CBJ.

Not a bad turnout for mid-afternoon on a work day.

Kyle Turris. Jeez, I know my own “draft year” was sixteen years ago, but these prospects look so young!

Looking forward to the draft itself tomorrow, and also to Comfest, which kicks off as well (Goodale was already closed between Park and Neil last night, much to my chagrin).
