So I did head back for Day Two of the draft after all. It’s not every year the draft is half a mile from my apartment, so I ought to take advantage of it, right?
Much smaller crowd than last night, as expected. In some ways that was nice, because without all the crowd noise, you could really hear the players’ families and friends cheering when they were picked and see them celebrating. In the second round and onwards, there’s none of the going up to the podium with the jersey, etc. The teams read off their picks from their tables, and the player goes down to the table to get their jersey. So it moves along faster than the first round, although I still just lasted through the Jackets’ two second round picks before deciding to move on, check out the trophies on display at Nationwide, pick up some marked down items at the Blue Line, and then head back over to Goodale Park for some lunch and then go stake out a spot on the 670 cap to watch the parade.
I just got home, so I’ve just seen the rest of the CBJ picks now, and haven’t had time to digest them. I will make comments later, although I will say that it looks like they may have gotten a real steal in Mayorov.
And now, the pictures:
Hope everyone who travelled in for the draft enjoyed their time in Columbus and has a safe trip home. Hope to see you all again at a playoff game some day!
