Lots of pre-game talk that last night’s game would tell us whether the CBJ are in fact a force to be reckoned with in the NHL, or just the beneficiaries of a relatively easy early schedule. This was their first game against a top team in the league, on the road, against a division rival (even if that rivalry has yet to really ignite).
And they laid an egg.
On the heels of losing a winnable game in Chicago.
No doubt ankles are breaking around Columbus this morning as people hop off the Jackets’ bandwagon. Oh, who am I kidding? That bandwagon hasn’t quite revved up yet. If ankles are breaking, it’s because people are already drunk and stumbling around 6 hours before kickoff of the OSU-Illinois game.
I’m not giving up hope just yet. Detroit is a damn good team, and they were playing at home, and that would be a tough win for any team. And of course, I was expecting .500 hockey this season, and they’re still above that mark, so no reason to panic just yet. Chalk the last two games up to experience, and move on.
And the Jackets get a chance to get right back up on the horse this evening against another division rival. Nashville may not be quite the marquee team they were last year, but it’s time to start exacting some revenge for them going 8-0 against the Jackets last year.
And finally, on a happier note, SLU finally won a league game! Woo-hoo!
