Luke Richardson Retires

The former captain of the CBJs has called it quits after 21 years in the NHL. Richardson seemed to be a classy guy when he was here in Columbus, which is why it was a shame that he’s mostly remembered as one of Doug MacLean’s bad UFA signings. He had some decent stretches here, but seemed to crumble under the weight of being the captain of this dysfunctional organization. After relinquishing the C to Adam Foote (who would himself not exactly flourish while wearing it), he actually seemed to be having a bit of a career renaissance in Columbus, which ended with a broken jaw and trade to Toronto. Pity it couldn’t have ended a little better in Columbus, because, as I said, he always seemed to be a quality guy.

One last time, for the road:

LUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUKE!!!!
