Jackets 5, Canes 1: Stop me if you’ve heard this one before

So here we are again — the Jackets are hot, they just beat an Eastern team having a not-so-stellar season, Steve Mason played well, things are looking up. And in the immediate future are visits by Dallas and St. Louis, must-wins against teams jockeying for a playoff spot in the West. Of course, the wheels kind of fell off a couple weeks ago when the Stars and Blues visited on the heels of a relative hot streak and win over an Eastern foe. Mason claims to be back to full health, though, so maybe this time they can get four points out of the home stand. It would certainly help to solidify their hold on a playoff spot — that’s right, the Jackets are currently in sixth place in the West, so they’re looking to hold onto a playoff spot for a change, rather than chasing eighth place. I remain optimistic, but blind faith has rebounded on me before with this team, so only cautiously so.

  1. not-so-stellar – tell me about it. Just as soon as we have a 7-2 win in Phoenix, we lose 2 in a row – each time giving up 5 goals. Currently we’re up 2-0 on Buffalo, but I’m not holding my breath.
